Death of Jett Travolta

January 5th, 2009

Some of you already heard that John Trovalta’s son died, but for those of you who haven’t here’s the story.

John Trovalta’s son Jett, 16, was last seen entering the bathroom on Thursday.  His caretaker found him unconscious in the bathroom late Friday morning.  “We are heartbroken that our time with him was so brief. We will cherish the time we had with him for the rest of our lives,” Trovalta and Preston said in their first public comment since Jett’s death.

John Trovalta and Kelly Preston have said that Jett was very sick and was diagnosed with Kwasaki syndrome.  Kwasaki Syndrome is an illness that leads to inflamed blood vessels in young children.  It is thought that had he a seizure.

The Bahamas health minister, Dr. Hubert Minnis, has said that a U.S. certified pathologist will fly in Monday to assist with the boy’s autopsy.  “I have spoken to Travolta and informed him that the government is doing everything it can,” Minnis said Sunday, adding he could not disclose further specifics about the autopsy.  Trovalta is trying to finish funeral arrangements and hopes to fly his son’s body to Florida by midweek

I know John Travolta best from one of his movies, “Grease.”  “Grease” is one of my favorite movies.  He is in many more movies and is a great actor.  Kelly is an actress also but has been seen in fewer movies.  This is one of the saddest things that can happen to a parent.  I hope that John Trovalta and Kelly Preston will get through this hard time of losing their son with peace and faith.

It’s terrible to have to bury your child.

I agree, that’s a terrible thing. I’ve always liked John Travolta as an actor, and from everything I’ve read he and Kelly Preston are decent people. I’m very sorry for them.

The Travoltas are Scientologist,so they believe that they are immortal beings and their souls go to a new body,so they aren’t as sad as I would be,I am happy for them in that belief,I don’t believe I could survive the death of a child. My brother couldn’t.It is a huge tradgedy.

Thanks for your comment, Doris. I think it’s true that religious belief can sometimes soften the blow of losing someone close to you, especially a child. But it can never be anything less than a terrible tragedy, as the example you referred to so clearly showed.
