Veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, whether they realize it or not, have a special interest here. Aside from nutty conspiracy theories about wars for oil, the simple fact is that our dependence on oil from the Middle East constitutes a major national interest. But for that, we would have more options on policies toward and actions in the region. I'm all for reasonable, achievable measures that will protect the environment and lessen our dependence on foreign oil. More power to all of those who are actively working on the problem.
