Speaking with one of our great allies, France, Attorney General Holder pledged to close Gitmo, someday.
On an official visit to Paris, Holder stressed what he called unprecedented intelligence-sharing ties between France and the United States against a united enemy, al Qaeda, that he said still held the two countries and its allies in its sights.
The recent killing of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was unlikely to affect the timing of the closure of the Guantanamo facility, Holder said.
“Although we have not closed Guantanamo within the time period that we initially indicated … it is still the intention of the president, and it is still my intention, to close the facility that exists in Guantanamo,” Holder told a joint news briefing with French Interior Minister Claude Gueant.
That’s cool. He apparently did not offer any hints about what might be done with the terrorists gentlemen still there. Does the Department of Justice building in Washington have room for them?
Still, it’s comforting to see President Obama’s attorney general busy with foreign affairs — that worked so well for President Kennedy during the Bay of Pigs invasion planning, during which he relied substantially on his equally experienced brother the attorney general as well.

Why isn’t the Lizard Lady of Foggy Bottom dealing with France?
And since when is it the job of the AG to establish such policy. Last I checked, this was a political/judicial issue, not a prosecutorial one. But what do I know?
I’d note that the Lizard Lady is one of the most cold-blooded, self-serving political creatures who ever lived — just like her “husband.” I guess I’d as soon have Holder taking care of it as her. And besides, this is France….
As far as policy toward Guantanamo is concerned, I’m sure Holder is reflecting Administration policy. Obama would have closed it if he could have, but that nasty Congress got in the way.
